PROGRAMME OF FUTURE EVENTS/SPEAKERS FOR 2012/2013

2012

Thursday, October 25th AGM followed by an illustrated talk by Anne Scarratt "Piracy in Plymouth Sound-28th November 1449"

Thursday, November 22nd A talk by Dr Bill Scarratt entitled "Modbury Turnpike 1759-1877, the story of our local roads"

Thursday, December 6th At our Christmas Social everyone will be invited to talk about an interesting historical book/object in their possession, this will be followed by a welcome drink but please BYO finger buffet, drink & glass.

2013

Thursday, January 24th A talk by Graham Pinkerton entitled "Scientific instruments & how they affect you". There will be an opportunity to examine Victorian & Edwardian instruments relevant to our everyday life, this will be followed by Graham's quiz.

Thursday, February 28th A talk "Backalong in Kingston" with our very own President-Viv Freeman.

No meeting in March

Saturday, April 27th A guided tour (10.30am-12.30) by Roger Barrett of Salcombe Maritime Museum which is a treasure trove of models, paintings, photos & artefacts that tell the story of Salcombe's links with ships & the sea from ancient times to the Second World War.

Thursday, May 23rd An illustrated talk by Robert Hesketh from Bovey Tracey on "Devon's Inns" (more details later)

Saturday, June 22nd A conducted tour of Port Eliot, the historic seat of the Earl & Countess of St. Germans, Saltash. Please let Margaret Cocks know if you are interested.

Thursday, October 24th AGM -speaker Win Scutt -"Prehistoric Settlement in South Devon"

All meetings take place at 8pm in Kingston Reading Room; trips/visits to Historical venues usually take place on a Saturday.
